Day One - Prologue

Well, the time has finally arrived. Another one of those crazy ideas, born out of a Friday night pub chat has again come into fruition. What has now been dubbed 'Challenge Easter', the follow up to the London Marathon has led us, Jonny Heald and James 'Brooksy' Brooks to foolish accept the 2011 edition, cycling the entire length of the UK - Lands End to John O' Groats for all you Geography fans.

In the run in to the event we have been tirelessly campaigning to raise money for Kidney Research UK; a charity close to my heart as the lovely Sarah Biddle has been plagued by kidney trouble all her life.
If you enjoy the blog, or if you simply want to shut my pestering of prising you of your cold hard cash up, please visit www.justgiving.com/landsendcycle2011.

Some of our media round-ups included a BBC article, all about how Wildmoor Spa, Stratford helped us with our training. They provided us with awesome facilities and essential advise and getting the local 'rags' to publish articles about how great we are.

When I finally saw the vehicle we were going to be spending the next gruelling two weeks in, I was pleasantly surprised! Not because of it's shear size, or the fact I shotgunned top bunk above the drivers seat, but in the knowledge of it's previous occupants. This van certainly has seen some action! Katie Price hired it for a week and Yvette Fielding did a weeks filming of 'Most Haunted' in here. This did get me thinking though, perhaps this is the UK's most haunted motorhome!
The motorhome is been driven by Brooksy's dad, Steve, who bares a striking resemblance to former Ausralian cricket captain Ricky Ponting and is a thoroughly nice chap, unlike his Aussie doppleganger.

The drive down was long and tedious. I did try and entertain myself by running up and down the van like a 9 year old on a school trip, this quickly stopped when a sharp turn had me hurtling towards the toilet door. Instead I turned my attentions to waving at motorists behind (out of the back window). I had considered making a sign that said "honk if you like biscuits", but sadly couldn't find a pen.

It took us longer than expected to reach England's most southerly/westerly point. So we are heading the last few miles to the start point in the morning.

Local beers consumed: Proper Job and Dumbar.

Location:Lands End(ish)
